Board of Management Course
This three-evening course is designed to address the purely practical aspects of being a member of a board and is aimed to inform newly appointed board members, existing members are also welcome to attend. The desired outcome is to enable members to participate satisfactorily in the work of the board, contribute to the progress of the school and avoid pitfalls caused by a combination of over-enthusiasm and lack of knowledge. Therefore there will be as much emphasis on what the board (and the individual member) should not/can not attempt to do as on what must or ought to be done. A set of FAQs will be addressed and handouts provided for future reference. The course will proceed from considering the nature of a board to the roles of the individual members to describing the relationships between the board and the other persons or groups (of which there are several) with whom the board must interact. While the focus of the course will be at all times on the practical aspects of board membership, it will be impossible to avoid dealing with a certain amount of law as it relates to schools and boards, but this will be kept to a minimum and presented as clearly as is consistent with accuracy. It will also look at new child protection guidelines for boards as well as a new DES manual.
This event cannot be booked online. |
